SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Staff Engineer, Product Management – Client Technology is a member of a dynamic team focused on delivering the products and services that make up a world-class IT experience. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience supporting the IT environment in scientific laboratories. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating the installation of instruments, enabling the capture and integration of instrument data into laboratory data systems, and ensuring all IT needs in the laboratories are met. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the laboratory IT environment including instrumentation, scientific hardware and software, and Windows server configuration and management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Act as the primary IT contact for vendors installing instruments in laboratories.
· Configure network settings, storage locations, and account permissions for instruments.
· Configure servers to connect to instruments and ensure compatibility, capture and retrieval of instrument data
· Create test plans to confirm the operation of instruments for needs, developing and implementing corrective and preventative actions when needed
· Install security software on all lab servers, ensuring they adhere to security policies
· Ensure security updates and patches are applied to lab servers automatically and/or manually at coordinated times
· Act as the primary contact and support person for troubleshooting instrument software and servers
· Manage licensing and installation of specialized software for scientists in the labs
· Set up, test, and maintain image backups of all instrument data
· Build and maintain a high quality relationship between laboratory owners and the IT Team
· Look for areas of continual improvement, efficiency and streamlining in the laboratory IT environment
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education:
· BS/BA degree in a related discipline and 1-2 years of related experience; or-
· MS/MA degree in a related discipline and 1-2 years of related experience; or
· Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
· 1-2 years of experience with pharmaceutical or analytical laboratory instrumentation and software, including maintenance and training
· Experience utilizing instruments such as NMR, LCMS, cytometers, biophysical measures (MST,SPR), dispensers, and automation
· Hardware / software experience across multiple vendor platforms such as Agilent, Biacore, SciEx, and Waters
· Experience with laboratory data systems such as ACD Labs Spectrus, Anagram LogiLab, or ThermoFisher Chameleon
· Experience documenting processes and instructing scientists on the use of software
· Experience tracking service requests in ticketing systems such as Jira Service Management
· Experience delivering an exceptional client experience to specialized end users
Knowledge/Skills:
· Strong computer, analytical and organizational skills
· Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
· Strong customer-facing skills to effectively interface with scientists and business partners in the labs
· In depth knowledge of instrument configuration, networking, and Windows OS (including security and file structure)
· Working knowledge of Electronic Lab Notebooks (e.g. BIOVIA Workbook, IDBS EWorkbook)
· Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance for analytical instruments
· Experience in automation and scripting procedures for an instrument’s software
· Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints
· Ability to work with minimal guidance, adapt to frequent priority changes, and respond to ad-hoc requests
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Environment: primarily working indoors, performing clerical work
· May be required to lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
· 24x7x365 on-call availability for emergency escalations
